I am sure this question gets asked alot of the time, as it does with most games that has a large amount of mods availible. But i was walking through a GAME store, saw cities XL2012 and thought, screw it, i've got a little spare cash, and bought it.

I have a mod that makes the Omnicorp's prices fair and equal to the players, thats all i have installed.

Any mods that have anything to do with reducing the traffic would be nice, i have yet to make a city larger than 50k inhabitants yet, and even on 5k, i end up with roads jammed up.

Also any mod that tweaks the economics would be good too, i am finding it very hard to keep the people happy, and stay in profit at the same time, even with +14 farm/food tokens being traded to omnicorp(with the mod remember) along with selling some fuel and H.I services too, still struggling to make profit.

Re: must have mods?

Hey. Well the UIM is pretty obvious, install it despite Omnicorp mod doesn't require it.

Traffic, you should probably have public transport but since you budget might not allow it, do not worry about the citizens complaining... They do that just to keep you busy while they are fine or can manage the situation you have.

Zone for unskilled and skilled and zone for industries, so that you start to get tax from the. Do not hurry with civic services.. they (citizens) manage without them for sometime so that you get your budget better.

Re: must have mods?

Go to XLEX, look for author Altiris mods .... User Interface Mod (UIM). Then search and look for links to NEXL mods, there is such as TRAMS mod available. Use the search of XLEX I'm sure you'll find lot's of good mods for you gameplay. I also like to play the budget part despite that I have the money bank helping me balance my budget because apart form the simulation CXL has I also like to just build..

Re: must have mods?

NEXL - Network Expansion XL, is essential (search the XLEX for "NEXL Team" under "Author"). It adds several new transportation features to the game. RHM - Realistic Highway Mod, is also a good bet. One of the more recent, but still great mods is the CWN - CXL Road Widening Mod. The CLM - Crime and Leisure Mod, is also worth checking out.

If you're working with farms, you might want to try the Super Farm and Fertilizer Mod, found here. There are also several other good mods by the same author worth checking out.

These are all mods that I've used or will use when I get back around to playing the game again, but what you pick depends upon you. There's many other great mods out there that I'd recommend in a heartbeat, but they may not be what you're looking for right now. The best thing you can do is to browse the XLEX, looking at and downloading mods you like along the way. A lengthy task, but worth it in the end.

Re: must have mods?

The Game is bad and boring without any mods. My recommendations:
XL Nation User Interface Mod - Essential to play most (or nearly all) mods and changes the user interface, you can find here
NEXL Pedpaths, Trams, Quadbikes Waterways, and Ferries - Adds much more transport options, you can find on the XLEX, and look for the list on the bottom-central-left
Cities XL Road Widening Mod - A newly released mod that adds much roads (especially avenues), you can find here
Crime and Leisure Mod - Improves security and adds crime, you can find here
Health Enchantments Mod - Same as the Crime and Leisure Mod, but this one for health, you can find here
Realistic Highway Mod - If you hate the ingame highways, you will love this mod, as it makes highways more realistic and freedom, you can find here, the addons are useful to, you can find here (RHM Addon) and here (RHM Streetlights)
Pharmist Water Road Pack - Adds some new roads that works on water, search on the forums since the original link is broken
Over Water Placement - Make most of the buildings can be build on water, you can find here
Limitless Building Construction - Makes 99% of the buildings no collision box and good for european cities, you can find here
There are many other nice mods that I don't mention it, and remember to download the installation pre-requisites, as they're necessary.

Re: must have mods?

I'd download all of my maps if I were you. Big smile
Nah, get all the NEXL stuff, RHM 2.0 is fantastic. UIM. Aitortillas stuff is also awesome. Nickos forest and plaza mods. Enhanced ambience mod.
And if you have a decent computer, get the super high settings.
I guess that's a start, but there are plenty more.

Re: must have mods?

User's collision box remover mod is quite essential, it helps building and eases game restrictions, a must have!
http://xlnation.net/content/collision-box-remover

Pharmist bridge height and intersection mod is quite good too
http://sharesend.com/e50yu

And the water roads pack of course here is another mirror
http://sharesend.com/pgb8l

If you see cars as boxes this tiny mod will prevent that
http://sharesend.com/3h5sq

Pharmist extra terraforming tools is good too if your going to flatten a mountain or something like that
http://sharesend.com/h235b

There is many more! Check Elmo's mods you might find something interesting there. Check Asterian's mods - very good. And check my mods too you might find something nice and practical.

Cities XL is fun and mods certainly enhance that!

Re: must have mods?

ooooooops!! I certainly almost forgot one of the best mods, as I use in-game highways but I really dislike highway interchange structures because those are so damn big (with UIM comes under custom content button those big highway interchanges but with reduced collision box (this was previously someone else's mod but UIM sucked tons of existing mods to it including this, and no harm there)) anyhow, as I use the in-game highways this is very good, Hyperwolf's creation:
http://xlnation.net/content/highways-allow-intersections

Something else from Hyperwolf this is a must have! parking:
http://xlnation.net/content/parking-pack-0 (choose the UIM version) I wish that there would also be smaller parking lot than 40x40 - maybe some day... I haven't requested it until now Laughing out loud

Highways and roads in minds, Gas stations are a nice add to the game:
http://xlnation.net/content/gas-station (choose the standalone version if your not using clm).

I suggest that you play and try things out and get mods when you feel like that you need a solution somewhere. It's better to start playing first and learn the basics and what stuff is in the menus and how the simulation functions, and after that get a few mods at a time. I wouldn't recommending installing 30 mods at the same time and then go to play you might be a bit mixed up if one is a completely new to the game. Happy playing time to all new people.players here! You will enjoy CXL and mods give a dynamic boost to the game. I hope this helps Smile

Re: must have mods?

As a newbie to Cities XL 2012 (I toyed around with 2011 but found it lifeless), thanks for this thread.

Hopefully you can indulge me for a dumb question or two. I downloaded a bunch of these mods, including the highway one, the crime one, leisure and of course the UIM. I'm not sure if they're working properly. For example, I go to Decoration > Trees and there's nothing there. I can't do anything at all. I go to transportation > roads and the first two types of roads are available (paths and roads), but the third type is greyed out and no tool-tip pops up when I hover over it. Now it's been some time since I played Cities XL at all (and didn't play it for long) so maybe it's due to population caps, but can anyone confirm what I should be seeing on some of these?
