How to make a bench bend/curve in 3DS max?

Hey all,

As I'm slowly closing in on my Washington Monument project I am now working on the benches that go around with the base's circle of the Washington Monument.

I thought this would be piece of cake as I knew how to use the modifier 'Bend' on a tube.
Guess again, I made a nice bench by creating a 2D spline and then extruding it to 3D, then adding some standard boxes underneath the bench, attaching them and voila bench is ready and looking nice.

Only problem is now that I want to bend it so that it would go along in a circle, instead of that the beginning of the bench goes wider as I increase the bench rate, while the other side goes narrow.

I seriously dont know why, anyone has an idea?

Is it because I have been working with the editable spline instead of the 3D tube which worked for me before?

Allthough I don't rlly see the reason why one would and the other wouldnt work.

Can you help me create my bending bench? Tongue

Bend modifier can be a little tricky, the wrong bending could be because the position of the pivot, the gizmo, etc.

Try the FFD 3x3x3 modifier, it's more intuitive and gives you can control better the deformation with the control points.

If you want to create shapes from splines reduce it's interpolation to a low value because if not you will end up with a huge polycount when it's collapsed to a mesh (it eventually will turn into a mesh), to keep the "curviness" it puts a lot of vertices one next to the other, with means lots of triangles.
