City & County of Barclay
Welcome back! Barclay is here and...as clogged as ever! Argh!!!
If you read my first city journal, you'll probably be aware of the fact that my city experienced major corruption, including, but not limited to apparent missing files for elite residential files and error codes out the ass. I figured that since I owned CXL 2012, but never used it, it would be worth my time to transition to it. So I did, brought almost all my essential mods, and started all over again. This time, I started in the southeast corner, as opposed to the southwest. Still connected to the United States through the M1 - Peace Arch crossing with Blaine, Washington, USA (the arch is out of view). Long lines build into the city, and often clog commuters at all times of the day. If you haven't yet caught on, Barclay is in Canada. The mayor is Greg Swardson -- not like that is really important, I'll probably never mention Mr. Swardson again, but it's the thought that counts.
Update -- 25 February, 2013
Okay, so I'm finally back, and wow! has the city changed. My original post had a population of about 350,000. Now, I have about 10x as many people. I finally have a central business district, as well a very highly developed motorway system. I was beginning to develop a map, but I began to realise it was a bad idea as it takes forever and is difficult to update (if at all possible). Also my Photoshop trial expired recently so I had to go and buy Creative Suite 6 -- definitely worth it, but still taking a lot to get used to. I was using CS3 prior so it's a great update.
So, what's changed?
- 3-runway International Airport
- Huge motorway system (fully developed with interchanges)
- Central Business District
- FINALLY perfected my roundabout design -- really lovin' it
- AND that's about it. Pictures speak better than words
To start, here's a map of the current city state. From this map, you can see the city centre, the motorways, the a-roads, and the Jared S Fogel Airport (north is to the right).
The Jared S Fogle Airport. Linking Barclay to the outside world, KJSF (the ICAO code) uses state of the art robotic ground workers to ensure quick delivery of bags to the terminal. A full suite of car hire groups exist in the car park in between the two separate terminals. The two terminals are connected via a tube train underground. Quick access to the M3 and the rest of the city makes Jared S Fogle Airport really something else. Oh, and did I mention a 98% on time record? Near perfect year-round weather contributes nicely to the airport's record.
The central business district. A HUGE project is in the design phase to shift the downtown corridor around, and implement a new basketball arena for the newly purchased Sacramento Kings (take THAT Seattle). The Barclay Phonics, as they will be known, are already in the genetic modification phase and will be ready for domination in a years time.
Carmel, a neighbourhood of Barlcay, is setting examples for the rest of the city as to how roundabouts and dual carriageways can exist in great harmony.
The M1 - M25 interchange. Took one year to build and came in under budget. It's the city's 2nd stack interchange.
The M25 has an interchange with the B3008 (the interchange in the bottom left). The traffic map above demonstrates just how well the roundabout design works.
Don't ask. I don't know how this interchange happened and yes I hope to change it in the future.
The M1 - M25 interchange. The M25 is the dominant motorway in the interchange.
Original Post
Moving along, I want this post mainly to consist of my highway network. I am still working my dick off to get the city just right, and I'm not fully prepared to show it all yet. In the mean time, enjoy these next few images portraying the network of highways.
The M1 - M6 stack junction, the cities oldest highway junction (and arguably the most efficient). Built in the 60s to replace an overcrowded cloverleaf, it transports traffic from Aberdeen to Laughlin in a matter of minutes (traffic permitting).
The Fraser Y, a crappy 5000 year old junction built without ANY planning at all. Traffic regularly backs up into the M66 (which is what it is signed as). Plans exist to continue this motorway across the Aberdeen farm fields to complete a missing link.
A helicopter view of the farms and the Royal Ass-Fuck Y, nicknamed by Fraser and Aberdeen residents that use it to get to work. Barclay does not condone the obscene nickname residents have given it, but truth exists without any doubt.
The M3 as it connects to (from north to south) Gallstone Road and then the M6 via two roundabouts. Plans exist to complete this junction as free-flowing due to high traffic volumes.
The full M3 - M6 junction.
This is the M6 - Gantry Road interchange, a rare diverging diamond interchange. It can be found on the west side of the M1 just a mile from the M1 - M6 junction (for reference, the bottom of the image is west).
That's all for now folks! I'll be back as soon as I can, school permitting.

Very impressive! I am especially stoked with all of these amazing hand-made roundabouts! You have to make a tutorial on this.... beautiful city journal layout you got down there. I also especially love the satellite map you have produced down there, very nice! Despite all of these traffic congestion - but hey, I think traffic is a realistic thing anyway. You have produced an excellent example of an American city! I hope I'll see some more pictures soon... |

Very nice skyline! |

Great planning, and the general road system is just Genius! Waiting for a more detailed presentation of each districts! |
|
Do you mind posting a vid on how the game simulates traffic moving through the last two pics? (If it isn't too much trouble |
|
You inspired me!!!!!!!! |
|
very nicely done .... could u list the mods you are using? also which map is this i dont recognize it... |
|
Very impressive! Especially love your highway system! |
